I hope this week finds you stepping into the power of your authentic self-expression in an exquisite and sustaining way!
I’ve gotten a couple of emails from people asking questions about their specific chart. Everything I’ve written about Human Design and anxiety applies to potentially anyone, no matter what their chart looks like and how it’s defined.
Here’s the deal.
We all have all of the chart.
There is a tendency in Human Design to teach that you “are” the parts of the chart that are defined (colored in) and the rest of the white parts are your “not self”.
Your Human Design chart isn’t just a map of how you use energy, your gifts and your talents, it also teaches you how you engage with the world and gives you an outline for a soul curriculum that you must master in order to fully express all of who you are.
It’s also a code for the “personality” of your DNA. We all have all of the human genome inside of us, even though we only express a fraction of it. The chart is the same way.
We all have all of the chart.
The colored in parts are more “active” parts of our soul curriculum, but we encounter and experience all of the energies in the chart.
It’s hard to make hard and fast “rules” about how humans behave. We are very complex creatures that draw on, not only our own life experiences, but also our ancestral memories, our collective conditioning and more when we make the daily choices for our lives.
I teach that the definition (the colored bits) in your chart is what you bring to the world and represents a consistent theme that you work with, grown from and, ultimately, master as part of the arc of your life story.
Your openness (the white bits) are what you learn from relationships and your experience of the world. Openness is what the world brings you and is just as big and important as your definition.
Your life is an exquisite dance between these two parts of your chart.
I encourage you to look at the white parts of your chart, take apart each of the themes of your “open” Gates and explore how you’ve learned about these themes through your relationships.
Which Gates do your closest loved ones have defined in their charts that you have “open” in yours? This will tell you a lot about what you’re here to learn from each other.
Today I want to talk to you about the Spleen Center and how it can potentially be a source of anxiety in our lives.
Next week I’ll unpack the Gates on the Spleen center and how they might impacting your personal chart.
The Spleen Center is the Center that regulates our survival instinct.
To a certain degree, this is our “animal instinct”. This Center is under a lot of evolutionary pressure right now. The function of this centers in humans is complex and challenging at times because we are hard-wired in a much more complex way than animals.
The Spleen gives us important lessons that we must master if we’re going to fully activate our innate creative power.
To find the solutions to the challenges facing us today, we have to consciously learn to cultivate a new kind of creative energy.
Creativity must be consciously practiced and used as a deliberate response to crisis and change.
In 1781, when we became nine centered beings, the Solar Plexus Chakra, the chakra responsible for transformation, personal power, and sustenance also split into two new centers giving us the Spleen Center and the Emotional Solar Plexus Center.
The emergence of the Will Center and the new configurations of the heart of who we are, gave us a new potential to calibrate our direction with intention. This split in the Solar Plexus Chakra is giving us a different evolutionary challenge that we must master to lock in our full creative potential.
We are learning to create with emotional energy by virtue of learning how to consciously harness emotional energy and use our emotional state to calibrate our heart and the Magnetic Monopole.
We are moving away from being purely reactive, fear-motivated beings to becoming beings that can harness the power of faith as a key element of our creative power.
This marks the beginning of our final delineation as human beings. We are outgrowing our purely instinctive nature.
This particular aspect of our evolution has proven to be quite challenging for us because this represents a movement away from the energy of fear as a driver for action. It’s scary to not be scared and the idea of moving past fear often creates resistance and doubt, both artifacts of logical thinking!
We are not moving away from the spleen as a center but refining the way in which we use this center, learning a more evolved response to fear and mastering the power of faith as an emotional frequency to cultivate courage.
The spleen is the center for the immune system, for instinct, and for time and timing.
These three interrelated factors form the perfect trifecta for ensuring the signal for survival. The spleen gives us a gut-level feeling, often experienced as fear, that signals that something is potentially about to happen that threatens our health, life or well-being and urges us to take action to protect ourselves.
This is a pulse that requires immediate action. It triggers an adrenaline response, raises cortisol levels, shuts down the more creative aspects of the brain, and puts us in flight or fight mode.
Obviously, if our lives are being threatened, we need to react in the moment. If a bear is chasing you, you’re not going to stand around contemplating all of your potential responses or Google what to do on your phone as the bear comes barreling towards you. You’re going to take relatively “thought-less” action to ensure your survival.
We have instincts, but we are not purely instinctual beings. This tremendous evolutionary pressure that this center is under is creating a deep, existential crisis for humanity.
Our advanced minds, creative desires, and impulses have gotten all twisted up with our survival instincts, leaving us terrified to do things like speak on stage, write a book, or look for a new job.
We have learned to let fear drive us, to paralyze us, and to cause us to resist our natural creative impulses. So much of our personal and collective evolution and our ability to choose our future is rooted in our ability to relearn how to interpret fear and to reprogram our fear response.
Fear is not an illusion. Fear is a real response to a real-time threat to your survival.
Under certain circumstances, fear is essential and healthy. It’s good to be afraid of large animals, of going into a dark alley at night, or into an unlit cave. Your fear response is telling you that your life is potentially under threat and you need to be mindful and ready to react.
As we learn to draw more on the Emotional Solar Plexus as the source of our human creative potential, we are going to have to unlearn the patterns of our existential fears and to bust through these limitations that can feel so paralyzing and daunting.
The trick to busting through existential fears is learning to use the power of time and action to transcend the paralysis that fear can often trigger.
Each gate of the Spleen Center has the potential to capture us in a time warp of paralyzing existential fear. When you learn to interpret these energies in a more evolved way and you embrace the understanding that these are truly places where you need to “feel the fear and do it anyway”, you’ll soon learn that these are time-limited fears.
Actions dissipate the fear, decreases the cortisol and adrenaline response, and opens you back up to activating the human creative potential of your mind.
In other words, as much as you may not like this, if the fear or anxiety you are experiencing is an existential fear, sometimes the only way through it is to go through it. There is a certain wisdom to the adage, feel the fear and do it anyway. Once you walk through it, the fear dissipates.
Here’s the deal.
Over the past 35 years of serving as a Life Coach, I have found that usually that one thing that you are the most afraid of doing is actually the thing that is yours to do in the world.
What you are feeling isn’t really “fear” – even though it feels like it. It’s excitement. It’s the awe of the amazing task that you have chosen for yourself in this story of the unfolding of the world. It’s the humility – your RIGHT PLACE – that is calling you forward.
The truth is, most of us learn at an early age to not fully occupy our right place and take up our right space. When we internalize this message, we become tentative and timid about assuming the powerful place in the world that only we can occupy.
You might not be afraid. You might be excited. You might be feeling too afraid to hope that you could actually do what you came here to do – to BE yourself.
I’ll let Bucky Fuller end my message for today with one of my very favorite quotes of all time:
“Never forget that you are one of a kind. Never forget that if there weren’t any need for you in all your uniqueness to be on this earth, you wouldn’t be here in the first place. And never forget, no matter how overwhelming life’s challenges and problems seem to be, that one person can make a difference in the world. In fact, it is always because of one person that all the changes that matter in the world come about. So be that one person.” – Buckminister Fuller
Have a great week!
From my Heart to Yours,
