The elephant in the circus…

The Conditioned Life, The Compromised Life and/or The Conscious Life…

Last week we turned our house entirely upside down for Passover.

For those of who you aren’t Jewish, Passover is a holiday when we celebrate the escape of the Jewish slaves from Egypt.

During Passover we do not eat any leavened breads so we clean out all traces of certain grains and bread from our kitchens and we eat only matzoh (unleavened bread) and use special plates and cooking utensils.

If you’ve never eaten Matzoh before, it’s pretty tasty for a day. After 8 days, it’s really not so great for your digestive system. And by the time you restore your kitchen to it’s original state you are feeling pretty grateful for the return of your every day life and real pizza.

Symbolically, Passover is about taking time out of your regular life and contemplating where perhaps you may be stuck in old thoughts or beliefs that may be keeping you “enslaved” from the abundant truth of your potential.

In the Old Testament, the Jews, once they escaped from Pharaoh, had to cross the Red Sea and wander in the desert for 40 years before they could build a new life.

Many people wonder why the poor slaves had to wander around in the desert for 40 years. Was Creator punishing the slaves? Did they do something wrong?

Of course, the whole story, being a story about humans, is pretty complex and there isn’t a simple answer to these questions.

But I think there is a point in this story that is worth examining. (Bear in mind, I’m writing metaphorically here. I am in no way denying the real horrors of human enslavement.)

The Conditioned Life

When you are enslaved, you get used to being enslaved. If you are raised in slavery, you may not know that freedom is a possibility or something that even exists. You come to accept your status as slave as “normal”.

The same is true for elephants in circuses. When the elephant is young, the trainers tie a chain around their leg and they learn quickly that they have a very limited range of movement and freedom.

As the elephant matures, they grow so accustomed to being chained, that the trainers no longer have to actually chain their legs.

Many of us live our lives similar to the circus elephant or like those born into metaphorical slavery. We grow up with ghost chains that no longer bind us believing so strongly that we are still chained that we don’t move beyond our limited range of experience.

While staying within that range is safe, over time it takes a serious toll on every aspect of your life, including your physical body (Research actually shows that when we get stuck in a “rut” with our lives, our brain actually starts to shrink….), your relationships, your creative fulfillment, your connection to Source, even your money.

I call this chained way of being The Conditioned Life.

When you’re living a Conditioned Life you feel:

  • Powerless
  • Unlovable
  • Afraid
  • Confused
  • Reactive
  • Riddled with Doubt
  • Burned out
  • Disconnected From Self
  • Low Self-Esteem

The Compromised Life

In spite of the acceptance of enslavement as “normal”, there are those occasional souls who are alive enough in their hearts to still hear the call of freedom. These brave souls often see the opportunity, run and try to escape.

But towards what?

When you are a slave whose soul remembers freedom, you can’t bear not to run, even if what you’re running toward is an illusion.

But, true freedom isn’t achieved by escape. Escaping is just a reaction. You might survive. You might not get caught. You might have an “okay” life. But you’ll always be looking over your shoulder….an Escaped Slave, not a free Human Being.

I call this the Compromised Life. You’re free, to a certain degree, but you’re still always preparing for the other shoe to drop. When people ask you how you’re doing, you answer “I’m fine”. But there is this sense in your spirit, that you are still not truly free. And you feel guilty for wanting more…

When you’re living a Compromised Life you find yourself saying things like:

  • “Should”
  • “I feel guilty for wanting more”
  • “I would but it’s too risky…”
  • “I don’t know how…”
  • “I’m fine”
  • “I should be grateful for what I have….”

The Conscious Life

Then there there are those unique Human Beings who have a tendency to trip where others walk, mostly because they are running forward with such great gusto and enthusiasm, they aren’t so worried about how their journey will look to others and they don’t let little things like bumps in the road impede their momentum. The experience of their charge is as rewarding as the end result.

And once they reach their target, they are already aiming for something more, something higher, something delicious…something that feels more ALIVE and juicy…

I call this the Conscious Life.

When you’re fully Conscious you are:

  • Always on the edge of your comfort zone
  • Forward focused
  • Challenged!
  • Deliberate
  • Willing to take a risk
  • Authentic
  • Courageous
  • Resilient in every way
  • Fully Alive!

The Conscious life is rooted in awareness and choice, deliberate action and a celebration of who you truly are… When you are fully Conscious, you are not an escapee or a freed slave…but a real, infinite, lovable, powerful, courageous, decisive, emotionally wise, authentic, valuable individuated aspect of the Divine.

We have this funny idea that our evolutionary process and our life journey is linear and constant.

But our lives are not really like psychological learning curves or formulas.

As you read the descriptions of the Conditioned Life, the Compromised Life and the Conscious Life, you may relate to certain aspects of each one. It is rare that anyone is fully, 100% Conditioned, Compromised or Conscious.

We tend to flow and ebb between various ways of being in various aspects of our lives. You might find that in certain relationships you feel fully Conscious and in others you feel deeply Conditioned.

Or you may find that certain areas of your life are zinging and zapping and super-electrical and other areas of your life you feel stuck, trapped or even paralyzed.

Life is never about becoming Fully Alive and then checking it off your to-do list. If that’s the case, I promise you the next day you will be fully dead and ready for your next celestial adventure.

Life is about being in a constant state of conscious and deliberate expansion and evolution. Some days you’re really going to nail it.

Some days, sh*t happens.

To stay in that constant conscious state you have to be willing to do some things that are going to make you uncomfortable and challenge you. You’re going to have to have the courage to live true to yourself. Some of you might have to learn to say “no” more or “yes” more…

Some of you might have to make some big, brave decisions, speak your truth and stop worrying about what other people think…(yikes…especially if you have an Open Emotional Solar Plexus).

Many of you are going to have to fall in love with yourselves and not feel guilty for being “selfish”.

Most of all, you’re going to need support and information to help you make the changes you want to make in a conscious, deliberate and joyful way.

Look, change is not supposed to be easy. The Human Design chart shows us with the Gate 28, that we are designed to struggle to grow….NOTICE how I said STRUGGLE, not SUFFER.

You’re not designed to suffer.

But for your growth to be effective and conscious, to break free from the bonds of old beliefs, habits and patterns that may be keeping you from creating a “can’t wait to jump out of bed” kind of life, you’ve got to know who you are, what you want and how to access your unique power to create it.

You are all going to create your crazy, perfect individual life in the way that works best for each and every one of you. You will truly do it YOUR WAY. You’ll never be free trying to be like someone else.

But most of us are raised with our consciousness enslaved. We are not told that it’s okay to be big, unlimited, challenged, or even fall flat on our faces. We are told to walk, don’t skip or run. We’re taught to compromise, be “realistic” and do whatever we have to do to make the money and get along.

To break free from those chains, you need love and support, encouragement and information. And, of course, Human Design can be a mighty big chain cutter!

Over the past few months I’ve been thinking about ways to help you break free from old stories and conundrums that are keeping you enslaved to a history that really isn’t serving you so that you can find the work that makes your spirit soar, make the money you deserve to be making, create healthy habits that keep you strong in your body, have deeper, more fulfilling relationships and have a deeper connection to Source.

I’ve always thought that it would be powerful and effective to have a monthly Human Design support group to help people transition into being a more effective and empowered. I’ve played with a couple of variations and ideas and, after a lot of experimenting and tweaking, last week I launched my brand-new Human Design Online Community.

I’ve founded the Human Design Online Community to help you get a grip on your inner design and make it work for you instead of against you. This community is for anyone who wants a better life and is seeking a group of like-minded people to support you and cheer you on.

In my humble opinion, the first step to creating a better life is knowing your Human Design.

Once you learn about your Human Design, you learn to identify the aspects of your chart and your conditioning that may be keeping you stuck (your “Inner Conundrum”) and put a spotlight on it. You’ll discover how this challenge manifests itself throughout your life in different areas so that you can take steps to change your behavior.

The journey can sometimes be disruptive, but the transformation will be worth it.

I know, from more than 30 years as nurse and a Life Coach, that people grow more when they are supported and consistently put themselves in an environment where they feel supported.

I also know that when you are in the throes of growth, sometimes your finances will show “symptoms” of your evolution and money can feel tight. That’s why I created a low-cost level of membership to make sure that you get support in an easy, affordable way.

When you join the Understanding Human Design Membership community you get access to all kinds of support and live events to help you deepen your understanding of your Authentic Self and how you can best create a life that is in alignment with Who You Truly Are.

The information available to you in the Human Design Community and the support you receive will help you customize your plan of action to living a fully Conscious Life. You’re going to learn to do it your way, the way that works best for you.

And no one is going to judge you, tell you your dreams are impossible or try to stop you.

In fact, we’re going to be cheering for you every step of the way.

You don’t have to do it alone anymore.

I hope you’ll join us!!

From my Heart to Yours,

Karen
