Sit-ups for your Soul

Hi!

**Yesterday I sent you a note about ripping off the metaphorical duct tape from my mouth.  I immediately got emails from Projectors who were confused.  I did NOT intend to imply that you can ignore your Human Design strategy.  What I meant by my statement is that it’s time that we all get honest with ourselves and each other about who we are and why we’re here.

Here’s why that’s important:

If you’re like most of my clients, you probably feel tired.  That’s a pretty common complaint that a lot of people have.  It’s so common that we have experts, gizmos, creams and supplements that we can buy to help us sleep.

What if your exhaustion isn’t strictly related to the quality and quantity of your sleep?  What if you’re tired of hiding out?

Let me explain.

In my coaching practice, I use Human Design to assess people’s resiliency, their ability to “bounce back” from the twists and turns that life inevitably throws at us.

There are nine core characteristics associated with resiliency.  (I call them the Resiliency Keys.)

Those 9 Resiliency Keys are:

  • Lovability
  • Self-worth
  • Authenticity
  • Self-trust
  • Emotional Wisdom
  • Empowerment
  • Courage
  • Decisiveness

These 8 components have to be operating at a high level in order for you to experience the 9th component, Vitality.

Vitality is the energy to take action and to be able to do what you need to do in life.

When we can’t access our vitality, we experience burnout and exhaustion.

When people score low on the resiliency components, they create what I call “protective identities” to keep themselves feeling safe.

A “protective identity” is a way of acting that covers up places where you feel vulnerable or inadequate.

We all have (or are…) that “Control Freak” relative whose “protective identity” has to be in charge of every family gathering and decision as a way of overcompensating for the feeling that she doesn’t have a sense of empowerment or control over her own life.

Maintaining “protective identities” requires an enormous amount of energy to sustain them.

One of my clients, Lucinda, who had a low Courage score on the resiliency scale, was a business woman who had a terrible fear of failing.  Her father had been very successful and very critical of his daughter growing up.

Lucinda, who, in spite of being very capable and brilliant in her own right, kept sabotaging her success.  She consistently miscalculated the time it took to complete projects causing her to either submit proposals late, or rush through projects with poor quality work that didn’t represent her brilliance. She sometimes wouldn’t even do her work at all.

When we explored this pattern of failure, we discovered that Lucinda had created a “protective identity” as a chaotic, time-confused, un-grounded person as a way of controlling her fear of failure.

If she could basically “fail in advance”, then she didn’t have to take the risk of discovering that her best effort wasn’t good enough.

These kinds of behavior patterns and choices take a lot of energy.  When we use our energy to sustain these “protective identities” we use vital energy that leads to burnout and exhaustion.

The 9 Resiliency Keys, just like the core of your body, need to be strong for you to have energy.  When we are weak in any of these areas, when the “core” of your soul is flabby, you have to strengthen these muscles.

If you don’t, you risk hiding out from your true purpose and potential of your life.

Why is this important?

You will spend a lot of your life playing small, compromising, dumbing yourself down, settling, putting others needs in front of your own, pushing away opportunities, being passed over, feeling invisible, feeling angry, frustrated, bitter or disappointed and creating an internal legacy of disempowerment if you don’t strengthen the core of your Soul.

And you won’t give the world what you came here to give it.

It’s time for some serious soul sit-ups.

Because you deserve better in your life.

You need a community of like-minded souls who will strengthen your core.  You need the latest information and science to support you making the changes necessary to play bigger, be stronger.

And you need accountability because when you make these kinds of changes, it’s easy to get seduced back into doing things the “old” way.
